Music Monday: Gary Barlow

It is always a surreal experience when one of Great Britain’s biggest icons pops up on your Zoom chat – but it was amplified ten when the star in question just so happened to be Gary Barlow.
Still, even now, when I think of Christmas in my childhood home I can picture my two younger sisters dancing around in front of the telly to a Take That concert, as they dragged my late father into their fun.
The affable Gary has a good chuckle when I recall that story. It is hard to believe that the live concert at Wembley is over 30 years old. Did hitting 50 on the speedometer on The Long and Winding Road of Life about three years ago make Gary more reflective?
“I’ve been reflective for a few years, I’ll be honest. I don’t know whether it’s just 40s or going into 50s – but, yeah, I’ve been reflective for a few years,” he told me.
“And often music forces you to be reflective. A couple of years ago we did a 30-year anniversary, so you’re forced to listen back to all the multi-tracks and then you hear voices of people who you haven’t seen for 20 years. So that was a whole experience, that was.”
